WEDDINGS AND ENGAGEMENTS (Note: The following packages are standard
packages to assist the couple in planning their photographic wedding
experience. All packages and prices can be customized to meet the needs
of the couple and their families. What makes us different from many
photographers is that we are from the 'old school' of photography. Many
photographers today will not let you decide which photographs you want -
they pick them for you - they think they know best what you want. After
your big day, we will arrange a personal meeting with you, the couple,
their family, friends, whomever you want and together you will tell us
which photographs you like. Even if you choose to use another
photographer, scroll to the bottom of the page and read the questions
you need to ask your photographer. Remember, unlike a portrait sitting,
there is no 'do-over' for your wedding moments.)

THINGS TO ASK YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER AND YOURSELF (Along with
my answers)
- What’s your primary style? Posed and formal, relaxed,
photojournalistic, creative, artistic, candid, traditional?
I prefer a mix of formal and relaxed photojournalist styles. If
you desire both, I will have another photographer onsite to
assist me - one of us will concentrate on the formal aspect
while the other shoots the more relaxed shots. Once the formal
shots are complete, we will then both shoot a mix of creative
and candids for the duration of the event
- Do you shoot in color or black and white? Or both? Do you
shoot in a digital format that can create both color and b/w
versions of the same picture? I shoot in color and black and
white. I shoot all shots in RAW and JPEG. RAW gives me the
ability to perform post-shooting effects to give you the best
color balance and/or black and white enhanced shots available.
- What kind of input can we have on the direction of the
shots? Can we give you a shot list to work from? The
answer to these questions are yes. I have a standard list of
shots that I have developed over 30 years of shooting weddings
and engagements. This is a good starting point for you to add or
delete as your personal choice and family situation dictates.
- Are you the wedding photographer who will actually take
our pictures? If not, can we meet the person who will be? I
am the primary photographer. Based on our initial meeting(s) I
have three other photographers that I use - each with their own
special attributes that will best meet the needs of your day.
- Can we meet any assistants who will also be our taking
pictures? Naturally, I meet with each client well before the
wedding day. At that meeting I have a checklist that I use to go
over everything from guests, to photos you want, to pricing. I
also make arrangements to visit the church, the reception
location, the bride's and groom's home (if you are wanting
photos at those locations as you prepare for your day. The first
meeting is at not charge or obligation to you. If you decide to
use another photographer, I will leave the photo checklist and
other items that will assist you in your final decision on who
you choose to help you capture your day.
- How many times have you worked specifically as a wedding
photographer? How many were similar to the size and formality of
our wedding? I shot my first wedding when I was in college -
over 30 years ago. I have shot over 100 weddings throughout the
years - ranging from chapel weddings with 20 or 30 guests and
wedding parties of 4 or less, to weddings with 400 guests and
wedding parties of 16 or more. Many of my weddings have been
formal military weddings and I have shot a few Scottish
weddings/
How many other events will you also photograph that weekend?
When I commit to a wedding, I try (though not always
successfully) to avoid any other major commitments for 2 or 3
days before the wedding and for 3 or 4 days after the wedding.
This gives me time to visit the various locations that I will be
shooting and also to meet with the bride - groom - parents - and
most importantly, with the preacher or priest. One thing that
many photographers forget is that the wedding is a religious
ceremony when performed in a church or synagogue and the clergy
will determine if photography is allowed during the ceremony and
to what extent.
- What kind of equipment will you bring with you? How
intrusive will lighting, tripods, other equipment or assistants
be? I typically bring my camera, a backup camera, a tripod
and a single light stand and softbox. I will make the final
determination on what will be best after seeing the locations.
For example, for formal photos of groups, if the location has
white walls and low white ceilings with natural light from
windows, I will use a single flash and bounce fill. If the walls
are dark, then I will suggest using a larger off camera light
source with a 40 inch softbox to properly photograph the bridal
party, families, etc. Again, you make the final determination -
it is your day.
Do you process your own work? The answer to this is
yes and no. I have over $2500.00 of software designed
specifically for post production work. However, if you want a
stretched canvas 20x24 formal bridal portrait - I use TNT Color
Labs in Greenville, SC. I have been working with them since 1974
and their work is 'by-hand' and I have never had a bad product
from them.
- Can we buy the digital negatives from you? Yes, if
you look at our packages you will see that all shot that I shoot
are put onto a CD or DVD for you to order more prints later.
This allows you to go to CVS and order a standard machine print
OR to come back to us and we can order a hand-made photo by
number.
After you’ve asked these questions of your potential wedding
photographer, there are several questions you’ll want to ask
yourself:
- Do I like this person? Do I get along with them or get a
good feeling from them?
